Black Currant Tea Benefits
One of my favorite drinks in Summer is cold black currant tea. I make it just like a jug of ice tea by brewing black currant mixed tea. Being under the Sun a lot, this is a good way to supply myself with essential vitamins & minerals and hydrate free of sugar or caffeine trying to maintain younger-looking skin. Also, this is a good tea to drink at night because its magnesium content will help you relax.
Its main benefits are:
- Helps boosts immune system
- Anti-cancer
-
Prevents pre-mature aging of the skin
- Reduce inflammation
- Help sleep and prevent insomnia
-
Treats cold, flu and infections
1 tablespoon of fried black currants is equivalent to a ¼ cup of fresh fruits, contains more than 50 milligrams of vitamin C (Daily requirement is 75-90mg). This naturally boosts the immune system and supports younger-looking skin.
Blackcurrants are also a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acid and a good source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which is anti-inflammatory. It may help in reducing joint pain, stiffness, soreness of joints etc.
Black currants contain iron, Vitamin A and calcium, copper, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, and potassium. All of these minerals are essential to many of the body’s functions.
Furthermore, Both black currant leaves and fruits contain anthocyanins, a type of polyphenol that is a natural antioxidant that is anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and also believed to anti-cancer. The anthocyanin content of black currants has been shown to slow down and inhibit the growth of cancer cells, potentially leading to anti-cancer benefits.
A 2014 issue of “Frontiers of Microbiology” included a study that found that black currant leaf extract could protect against the influenza A virus, also known as the flu virus. The in-vitro study found that black currant leaf extract was useful in preventing the proliferation of the flu virus during the early stages, less than two hours after infection.
